SW Reflection on Auteur Videos

An auteur director is a traditional artist of music videos. The directors are considered ‘icons of the genre’ as they come up with refined ideas that convey subtle meaning that the audience can keep revealing every time they watch the video. An example of a highly respected auteur director is Michel Gondry. He directed innovative and exciting videos which attracted bands such as the White Strips and Bjork, to name but a few, to direct their videos. A unique video that is an example of his most prestigious work is The White Stripes’ Fell in love with a girl.

The video involves Lego animation throughout the whole video, even playing the instruments was shown in Lego pieces being individually changed to create movement. Gondry is extremely unique and other auteur’s who share similar qualities to him are Chris Cunningham, Spike Jonze and Jonathon Glazer.
